Family Vacation in Tenerife – Our Campervan Trip with “Billy”
As a young family with a four-year-old son, we love discovering new places.
After the excitement of the holiday season, we wanted to spend quality time together, enjoy nature, and escape the daily routine. Our choice? A family trip to Tenerife – and thanks to the VW T3 campervan “Billy,” it became an adventure we’ll never forget.
A Flexible Start: Family Time Without Stress
From the moment we picked up Billy, our son was thrilled. The colorful campervan with its retro charm felt like a giant toy. We packed our essentials – toys, snacks, and, of course, beach gear – and hit the road. The best part? With the campervan, we had complete flexibility. No strict check-in times, no rushing between accommodations.
First Stop: Loro Parque
Our first destination was the world-famous Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz. Our son was mesmerized by the parrots, dolphins, and penguins. After hours of excitement and laughter, we drove to a nearby camper spot. While our little one played in the van, we prepared a simple dinner. The day ended with a bedtime story under the stars – pure magic.
Pure Nature: Hiking & Picnicking in the Anaga Mountains
The next day, we headed to the Anaga Mountains. The winding roads were an adventure in themselves, but Billy took us safely to our destination. We chose an easy hiking trail, perfect for little explorers. Our highlight? A spontaneous picnic in the middle of nature. The view of the lush green mountains and the ocean was breathtaking, and our son had endless fun collecting leaves and stones.
Sun & Sand: Family Time in the South
A family vacation without a beach? Impossible! We drove to the sunny south and spent the day at Playa de Las Vistas. The shallow water was ideal for our little swimmer. While he built sandcastles, we simply soaked up the sun. In the evening, we parked Billy at a quiet spot overlooking the sea. Watching the sunset, listening to the waves, and playing games in the van – these are the moments that create lifelong memories.
Family-Friendly Fun: Siam Park & Animal Encounters
Another highlight was a visit to Siam Park, one of the best water parks in the world. With gentle slides for kids, thrilling rides for adults, and an incredible wave lagoon, it had something for everyone. Later, we explored Jungle Park, where we got up close with monkeys, big cats, and exotic birds.
Why Billy Was the Perfect Family Camper
The VW T3 campervan was more than just a vehicle – it was our home, our playroom, and our retreat all in one. The flexibility of a campervan was priceless for our family. We could take breaks whenever needed and always had everything at hand – from spare clothes to snacks.

Tenerife is a paradise for families, and with Billy as our travel companion, we explored the island at our own pace. Especially after the holiday season, when the crowds had thinned out, we got to experience Tenerife in its most relaxed form. Beaches, mountains, adventure – our road trip was full of moments that brought us even closer together as a family.
