When we arrived in Lisbon/Ericeira, we were excited and full of anticipation for our adventure. But what surprised us right on the first day was the warmth with which we were welcomed. Caro and Sebastian took plenty of time to explain everything in detail. They not only showed us the camper but also gave us valuable tips for the most beautiful routes and hidden spots along the coast. It didn’t feel like a typical handover but more like preparing for a road trip with friends. Their love for Portugal and life in the camper was palpable, making us even more curious about what lay ahead.

Our journey began in Ericeira, a small coastal town popular with surfers. On the first morning, waking up in our camper with a view of the ocean, we knew this was the perfect way to travel. The VW T3 wasn’t just a mode of transportation for us, it quickly became our cozy home on wheels. The simplicity of camping, combined with the freedom to stop wherever we pleased, was indescribable. We started the day with coffee on the beach, then followed the coastal road south.

Each stop was a highlight in itself. In Sintra, we wandered through mystical forests and admired old palaces. With the camper, we were able to visit remote places, far from the tourist crowds. The Costa Vicentina National Park captivated us with its wild beauty: miles of untouched beaches where we were often the only ones. Our camper reliably brought us from one dream location to the next, and every evening we fell asleep to the sound of waves in the background.

When we reached Sagres, the southwestern tip of Europe, it was clear: we didn’t want this life to be just for a vacation, we wanted it forever. The thought of returning the VW T3 was unbearable.
